Canton First Monday Market ~ Labor Day weekend

I enjoy visiting flea markets and trade days. You'll never know what you'll find among hundreds of vendors and you might come home with some hidden gems. The Mr. and I love browsing old antique/vintage items and trying to figure out what or how they were being used. Some items are just intriguing and it's fascinating how things have changed from decade to decade.

Since we had a 3 day weekend, we decided to make a trip to Dallas on Saturday and have an early start at Canton First Monday Trade Days on Sunday.  This is one of the largest flea markets in the states with ~6000 vendors. I advise printing a map in advance as it definitely helped us during our visit.

Some quick tips for 1st time visitor.
With various vendors in the flea market, it's best to have an idea what are you hoping to find in your visit. It you're a "junkie" like myself, I suggest parking at the West Gate. This area is uncovered and has tents and tables setup by each vendor. The price is cheaper and the vendor is more likely to give you a good bargain in comparison to the vendors inside pavilions. The Civic Center is fully air-conditioned and naturally everything is priced higher. The pavilions are filled with vendors that offer southern/western arts/crafts as well as home decor. There are also some vendors who re-painted/re-furbished/re-finished furniture and home decor items. If you're a DIY person, it's great to get some inspiration from these vendors. If you're a non-DIY person, these vendors charge a fair price for their work.

Not too forget, there are a ton of food vendors as well. Shoppers won't shop hungry!

antique show VS church rummage sale

i was really excited when i found about the bi-yearly anitique week show at roundtop & warrenton. tons of blogs featured this event and i want everything single item in those photos. so i made an effort to wake up early and drove 1.5hrs to the enormous “yard sale” 2 weeks ago. apparently, A LOT of people had the same idea.

dreamy chairsunfortunately, i came home with an empty car. i do find a lot of goodies that i want, but they’re priced beyond what i like to pay for. i think it was because i went to a church rummage sale in the same morning and bought from a nice lady who priced everything below a $1. i’m spoilt!

hurricane hermine?

happy belated labor day peeps. i had a well rested weekend considering the fact that i didn’t paint my kitchen cabinet, which i was supposed to. on my defense, i did complete one tiny project.

hurricane glass. they are so popular as i’ve seen this everywhere in blogsville. even pottery barn & west elm have them. they are going for $20-$70. ouch!

inspired by thirty decor chick, decor chick, my backyard eden i decided to jump on the wagon and look for glass and candlesticks that will work. a visit to the thrift store and came home with more than what i’m suppose to get. can’t help it as they are only $0.50 each.

after washing, drying and gluing them with gorilla glue(this thing is dangerous) and running around the house to find items that will fit in the glass…..here’s what i came up with.

i love how versatile they are. i can change the contents in them anytime i want and they would look different every time. speaking of hurricane glass, texas is hit by hurricane hermine. it rained whole day today and still haven’t stopped. on flood and tornado watch. hope it’s a mild one. drive safe people.

switching topic, i checked out wimberley lions market on saturday. it was a nice 40 mins drive to the hill country. this place is huge. they have more than 400+ booths. i was so excited to check out the booths like a kid on the toys aisle at target. they have everything from vintage, antique, handmade etc. it’s hard to describe how wonderful the place is, so here are some photos…… antique phone table real hurricane lamps love this painting. the girl is so cute dreamy chair….no wonder it was sold so quicklyshabby chic, cottage style

super delicious german recipe popcorn. it has a hint of sugarmy haul. finally found star fish for my beachy decor. only $0.50 each.
